Common Questions

Below is a list of the most common questions we get asked at Doig's of Glasgow.
If these don't answer your question feel free to contact us by email at @

I am interested in obtaining a quote from Doigs, how do I go about this?

We are always happy to provide a free, no obligation quote and this can be completed via our online booking form, via email, @, or you can call our offices on 0141 554 5555.

I have received a quote, how do I go about making a booking?

We require something in writing to make a booking and the easiest method is normally via email. If we emailed you the quote previously then simply reply to the email confirming you would like to proceed and provide us with your full name, address, post code and contact phone number. If the booking is behalf of a company / group / society please provide the name for invoice purposes. If you received your original quotation over the phone then please email the information requested above to @ along with a description of what we quoted on and the price quoted.

What are your payment terms and what payment methods do you accept?

Once you have made your booking we will forward you a confirmation pack detailing the hire details, coach sizes booked and total cost. Once you have received the confirmation pack we request a 10% deposit to hold the booking and your final balance is due 14 days prior to hire date. Payments can be completed in a variety of methods including Bank Transfer, Cheque and credit / debit card payment. Card payments can be completed over the phone, 0141 554 5555, or online using our secure Sage Pay facility

Doigs provided me with a quotation previously, how long is the quote valid for and will the cost change if I delay booking?

Any quote provided does not have a expiry date as such and will remain valid, up to the hire date, provided we can still offer availability. Provided the enquiry details remain the same then the cost will not change, if you request a change then the hire may require to be re quoted if the change makes a material change in the booking.

Can I change my booking after paying the deposit?

Yes you are able to change details such as times, pickups, drops and coach sizes after paying your deposit if required. Altering items is subject to availability and may alter your cost however we understand that when making a booking, particularly if made far in advance for a wedding, that requirements may change closer to the hire date. Any deposit paid will be transferred over to your final booking.

Does the cost quoted included include tax, tolls, VAT and driver gratuity?

All costs are fully inclusive of any taxes / VAT as applicable and tolls are not common in Britain. Any extra costs which may be required on your trip, for example ferry transfers or parking costs for specific venues, will be advised at the time quoted. We do not include driver gratuity on any quote however if you would like this included we can add at your requested rate.

I received a quotation from another company and they offered a cheaper quote than Doigs, do you price match?

Generally, we do not price match nor reduce costs based on other supplier rates. Doigs offer a fleet of luxury vehicles, all under 5 years old, and often quotes provided elsewhere may not provide the same standard of coach, driver or service we provide. We would be doing Doigs a disservice competing on costs when the same quality may not be offered elsewhere. We are also a proud "Glasgow Living Wage" accredited employer and whilst these standards make Doigs the best option for your coach hire requirements they not do generally make us the cheapest option.

I have heard of Doigs previously and seen your coaches on the road however when I looked online some other coach hire websites described massive fleets operating UK wide however I have not heard of these companies?

Unfortunately in the UK a number of coach broker websites operate online. Often these companies do not operate their own fleet of vehicles and display pictures of non-descript coaches which may bear no resemblance to the coach you would actually hire for your trip. These companies will accept your booking and then pass on to a coach operator they can find who will perform the hire at the cheapest rate. We would always strongly recommend booking with an actual coach company and if you are unsure ask the company will it be there coach on the day. Most coach companies operate in one region, for example Doigs operates in Glasgow and across the central belt including Edinburgh, and I would be highly dubious of any website claiming nationwide depots and hundreds of coaches available.

One of my group has a PCV license, can we self-drive the coach?

We do not offer self-drive on any of our vehicles under any circumstances.

Will my Doigs driver be uniformed and suitably qualified?

Yes Doigs drivers wear for all hires trousers, shirt and tie. All drivers are also fully qualified PCV license holders and subject to annual training which helps maintain our high standards. All drivers are subject to PVG checks to ensure they are suitably qualified for working with children and vulnerable groups.

Can the driver provide commentary to the passengers as we travel?

No, unfortunately we do not offer driver commentary on any of our coaches. We would recommend arranging tour guide if you require this service and we can recommend a supplier for this service.

What facilities will I have on my Doigs coach?

All Doigs coaches are silver in colour, fully air conditioned and fitted with 3 point seat belts for added customer safety. A number of our coaches have full leather interior and options can be selected, depending on coach size and availability, such as on board toilet, full size tables, fridge, hot water facility and large luggage capacity. If you have a specific requirement please let us know when asking for a quote.

 Are your coaches Euro 6?

Fortunately, all our coaches and regardless of size, meet the latest Euro 6 emissions standards. Apart from helping to save the environment, this also allows them to travel within UK and European city's who have brought in emission zones to cut back on air pollution. A number of UK city`s will start excluding vehicles which do not meet these strict levels.

What size of coaches can I hire from Doigs?

We operate a wide range of coaches starting minicoaches through to 86 Seater Double Decker. In between we have a number of size variations including 16, 19, 30, 36, 51, 53, 57, 72 and 74 seater.

Do you offer wheelchair accessible and / or PSVAR coaches?

Yes, we offer both wheelchair accessible and fully PSVAR compliant coaches.

My pickup is very late at night or early in the morning, will your office be open for queries if I have an issue?

Doigs offices are open and staffed 24/7 – we never close. Our night staff, from 6pm to 6am 7 nights a week, are on hand to help with active hires and can assist with unforeseen incidents such as flight delays or difficulties finding your coach. They are unable to provide quotations or accept bookings however.

Tell me a useless fact about Doigs to impress my friends?

Doigs started transporting coal back in the early 1900s before moving into coach hire around 1945. Doigs were very well known for providing coach trips to Ireland and to this day we still receive phone calls asking if we operate scheduled services to Donegal. We don't now, and haven't done so since the early 1980`s, however it always brightens up our day when somebody tells us they went on one of those trips many years ago and had a great time!

 Go on, tell me another?

The original family who owned Doigs unsurprisingly had the surname "Doig" however for the last 30 years no Doig`s have been involved in the business. For a full history of Doig's please visit our about us page

 One more for the road…

We literally never close. Christmas day, New Years day we always have someone on site at our base in central Glasgow. Even all the way through Covid 19 and lockdown we remained operational and staffed 24/7 and continued to supply key worker transportation.
